If you were God and you were going to come up with the idea of "church", what would you want that place to be like?
Probably one of the first things you would expect it to be was that it would be a place of inspiration. By that, you would expect that something special would be "breathed" ( that's what inspiration means) into the lives of those you love.
If you were God and you were planning what "church" would be like, you would also want it to be a place where the people who were part of it could find a sense of meaning and destiny. Somehow their focus would get beyond the here and now and they would look forward to a greater purpose that you had planned for them. Moreover you would also want "church" to be relevant to your people's everyday life, while still being able to draw them forward into a greater Christian faith than they had experienced.
If you were God, would'nt you want the idea of worship to be a totally meaningful, awe-inpiring, soul changing experience... and fun? And would'nt you also want your people to be comfortable around you, not requiring of them how they should look, what they should wear, or which economic strata of life they should come from?
And fianally, if you were God, and you were inventing the idea of "church", would'nt you want your people to take enough from the experience so that they could share your love and the purpose you have for them in life with everyone else they met?
Well guess what? We have a God just like that, and we believe that this is the idea that God had when He came up with the whole idea of "church".
At Vero Vineyard Church we were so convinced that God's idea of church was very much like what we described above... we decided to become one!
